</TD></TR></TABLE> The wife of Rivers State Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Mrs. Joy Boma Iyaye regained her freedom from her abductors on Thursday morning.
According to a release signed by the Press Secretary to the Rivers State Sports Commissioner, Dickson Iwarime, Mrs Iyaye’s release was due to the efforts of the governor, Honourable Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi and the security agencies. He however did not disclose whether any ransom was paid before her release.
The abductors had initially demanded for a huge sum of N1 billion before cutting it down to N150 million. "We thank the Rivers State Governor Rt. Hon Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi for his efforts in securing the release of the commissioner’s wife. We commend the security agencies for their untiring efforts in securing her freedom.
"We also wish to thank the religious bodies, friends, well wishers, staff of the sports ministry who through prayers, visits, words of encouragements supported us during our period of travail and pray that God Almighty will bless you all" Iwarime said.
